Dharma Productions Faces Another Shift with Dostana 2

Dharma Productions’ long-awaited sequel, Dostana 2, has hit another bump in the road. Reports indicate that filmmaker Advait Chandan has stepped away from the project after dedicating several months to its development.

Sources reveal that Chandan parted ways with the film due to creative differences. His vision for the sequel did not align with what the producers had in mind. Thankfully, the split appears to have been amicable, with no hard feelings on either side, just a matter of differing artistic approaches.

This exit adds another layer to the already complicated history of Dostana 2, which has seen numerous changes since it was first announced. Originally introduced in 2019, the film was slated to feature Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya in key roles, with Collin D’Cunha set to make his directorial debut. However, various production issues and casting challenges led to its postponement.

In recent years, Dharma Productions tried to pivot the project with a new direction. They considered casting Vikrant Massey and Lakshya in lead roles, with former Miss India World Sini Shetty also in the running for the female lead.

Chandan joined the project later on and worked on it for about seven months. His involvement was a source of excitement in the industry, especially given his previous directorial successes with Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha.

It has been reported that disagreements over the film’s tone, treatment, and overall vision prompted Chandan’s departure. Following his exit, Dharma Productions is now on the lookout for a new director as they aim to breathe new life into this long-anticipated sequel.

Despite experiencing various transformations over the years, Dostana 2 continues to be one of Dharma Productions’ most closely monitored projects, mostly due to the fanfare surrounding the original film from 2008 that featured John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

So far, the production house has not provided any official updates about the next steps for the film.
