Rodri Focused on World Cup Amid Manchester City Speculations

Spain’s talented midfielder Rodri has stated that he will put off any decisions regarding his future at Manchester City until after the World Cup. His main goal right now is to help lead Spain in their journey in North America. As he enters the last year of his contract, rumors are swirling about a potential move to Real Madrid.

Rodri acknowledged that chatter around his contract is common, but he insists it won’t distract him. Many believe he will be a crucial player for Spain as they prepare to take on Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay in Group H.

“It’s part of the job when you’re close to the end of your contract, so I try not to focus on it too much,” the 29-year-old said on Monday.

As Madrid presidential elections draw near, speculation has grown, especially after candidate Enrique Riquelme mentioned Rodri as a key target in his campaign against the current president, Florentino Pérez.

Despite the outside noise, Rodri remains calm. “I know where I stand. If it weren’t for the World Cup, maybe things would be different, but right now, my priority is to focus on the tournament,” he said. “Let’s talk about the World Cup, and I’ll address my future after it’s over.”

Inspiration from Nadal

In addition to his club situation, Rodri also shared his hopes for Spain’s mentality at the tournament, inspired by tennis legend Rafael Nadal. After watching a documentary about Nadal, he encouraged his teammates to adopt a disciplined and humble approach in their game.

“I told them we need to play like a smaller team, working hard without thinking we’re the best,” he explained. “Nadal always pushes for one more effort, and that’s what champions do—tapping into the immense talent we have.”

Spain is counting on Rodri’s leadership and mindset to steady their midfield as they navigate the high expectations and challenges of the upcoming World Cup.
