Iran-US War Coverage: Latest on Ceasefire, Trump’s Support, Nuclear Developments, Hormuz Shipping, and Kuwait Missile Strikes

Latest Updates on Iran-US Relations

In recent developments, five Americans were injured when missile debris hit the US Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait. This incident followed reports of ceasefire violations by the US, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. Fortunately, the Kuwaiti military intercepted a Fateh-110 missile, but the debris caused the destruction of a $30 million Reaper drone and damaged another one. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is currently considering whether to extend the fragile ceasefire with Iran. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth mentioned that the US is prepared to resume strikes on Iran if a new deal isn’t reached, as reported by Reuters.

Ceasefire Extension Talks

Both American and Iranian officials have expressed a willingness to extend the ceasefire for an additional 60 days and to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz. However, the final decision lies with President Trump. This extension is intended to give diplomats more time to negotiate a solution to Iran’s nuclear program. Following a two-hour meeting in the White House Situation Room, an official stated that Trump will only agree to a deal that he believes is beneficial for the US and prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Sticking Points in Negotiations

Disagreements remain between Washington and Tehran on two main issues: Iran’s ambitions for nuclear weapons and control over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump insists that Iran must assure it will not pursue nuclear arms and allow free navigation through the strait. However, an Iranian official, speaking to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, dismissed the notion of linking the deal to nuclear discussions. Tehran maintains that it has sovereign rights over the Strait, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stating that the management of this vital waterway should be determined by Iran and Oman.
