The buzz around the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD is heating up, especially after Deepika Padukone’s departure from the project. There’s been a lot of chatter online and in the film industry about potential casting changes, particularly with names like Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi being floated around. Director Nag Ashwin has now weighed in on this topic, bringing some clarity to the situation.

The rumors gained traction after Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed they wouldn’t be working with Deepika for the sequel, citing a mismatch in partnership. This raised questions about Deepika’s character, Sumathi, who plays a significant role in the Kalki narrative. Fans are curious whether the character will be recast or dropped entirely.

In a recent conversation, Nag Ashwin assured that Sumathi will remain an important part of the story. He mentioned, “We will announce who plays Sumathi in Kalki 2. Right now, everything is speculation. The character is very important and will definitely be there.”

Despite his clarification, fans are still divided on what might happen next. Some believe Alia Bhatt might take on a new role rather than replace Deepika. There’s talk that she could embody Goddess Vaishno Devi, a key figure in Kalki mythology, known for guiding and protecting Kalki.

Others speculate that both Alia and Sai Pallavi could be in the running for the role of Sumathi, as she is central to the plot and is the mother of Kalki.

Nag Ashwin’s comments confirm that no official casting decisions have been made yet, keeping the mystery alive.

The original Kalki 2898 AD featured stars like Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, striking a chord with audiences and paving the way for a broader cinematic universe. As casting updates for the sequel unfold, they will undoubtedly draw significant attention.

For now, fans will need to patiently await further announcements from Vyjayanthi Movies and director Nag Ashwin regarding who will play the pivotal role of Sumathi in Kalki 2.
