India Adjusts Monsoon Forecast Amid El Niño Concerns

India has revised its monsoon forecast for this year, now predicting rainfall at about 90% of the long-term average. Experts attribute this change to worries over the El Niño phenomenon, which can impact weather patterns globally.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had initially anticipated above-average rainfall. However, the shift to a lower forecast reflects the uncertainty that El Niño brings, which is characterized by warmer ocean temperatures in the Pacific. This can lead to dry conditions in some regions while causing heavy rainfall in others.

Farmers and agricultural experts are closely watching these developments. Many rely on monsoon rains for planting crops like rice and wheat, making accurate forecasts crucial for planning.

Authorities are urging communities to prepare for varying weather conditions. As the situation evolves, they emphasize the importance of staying informed and ready to adapt to any challenges that may arise during the upcoming monsoon season.
