The upcoming film Dada, which tells the story of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, is creating a lot of excitement with its recent casting news. Earlier this year, it was announced that Rajkummar Rao would be playing the lead role. Now, reports indicate that popular Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee has joined the cast.

Saswata, known for his memorable role as Bob Biswas in Kahaani, is expected to portray Sourav Ganguly’s father, Chandi Ganguly. He has already started filming in Mumbai alongside the rest of the cast. Additional reports reveal that Aparajita Auddy and Rahul Dev Bose are also part of the project, set to play Sourav’s mother, Nirupa Ganguly, and his brother, Snehashish Ganguly, respectively.

The film aims to highlight not just the cricketing achievements of Ganguly but also his personal journey. According to sources, filming has been going smoothly, with some scenes shot on set with Sourav himself present. The production team is planning to move to Kolkata for additional shooting by the end of this month.

Dada officially began filming in April this year, with Rajkummar Rao sharing behind-the-scenes moments on social media, expressing his excitement about the start of the project.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film will showcase Ganguly’s inspiring rise from his early dreams of playing cricket to leading the Indian national team and making significant changes in Indian cricket. It will also delve into his relationship with his wife, Dona Ganguly. Reports suggest that Tanya Maniktala, who gained fame from her role in Kill, has been selected to play Dona after a series of auditions featuring various actresses.

As filming continues, Dada is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sports biopics in the making.
