PM Modi Begins Five-Nation Tour with Visit to UAE

Abu Dhabi, May 15, 2026 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially commenced a five-nation visit starting with a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was warmly welcomed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi, where he received a guard of honour.

This visit comes at a critical time as tensions rise in the region due to ongoing conflicts involving the United States and Iran. Modi’s tour is set to include the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy over the next six days, aimed at enhancing India’s global partnerships and strategic ties.

Key Focus for Modi’s Visit

During this visit, enhancing energy security is a primary concern. Reports suggest that Prime Minister Modi is expected to sign significant agreements with UAE officials, particularly concerning Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies and strategic petroleum reserves.

In his remarks, Modi referred to the UAE as his “second home” and expressed gratitude to President Sheikh Mohamed for the warm welcome, emphasizing the importance of the longstanding ties between India and the UAE.

Regional Developments

While Modi’s visit unfolds, there have been developments in the region concerning maritime safety. U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping recently discussed the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for shipping. This waterway is vital for global oil supplies and has faced disruptions amid rising tensions with Iran, which has reportedly seized a commercial vessel in the area.

Despite these challenges, around 30 vessels have been permitted to pass through the Strait with Iran’s consent, illustrating a delicate balance in regional diplomacy.

Looking Ahead

As Modi travels to the UAE and beyond, discussions will not only revolve around energy security but also weigh on broader issues affecting global trade and cooperation. His visit reflects India’s commitment to strengthening its role in global affairs and enhancing its relationships with key partners across Europe and the Gulf region.

This tour highlights India’s strategic ambitions while navigating an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape. Further updates on agreements and discussions are expected as Modi continues his diplomatic journey.
