Chennai Super Kings Sign Dian Forrester as Replacement for Jamie Overton

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have brought in South African all-rounder Dian Forrester to replace the injured Jamie Overton for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Forrester will join CSK for INR 75 lakh after Overton was forced to withdraw due to a thigh injury.

CSK announced on Wednesday, May 13, that Overton has returned to the UK for further evaluations after sustaining his injury ahead of a crucial match against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Overton had become a key player for CSK this season. He participated in 10 matches, taking 14 wickets with an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89. Additionally, he contributed 136 runs, striking at an impressive rate of 158.13.

His last game was on May 11, where he helped CSK secure a five-wicket victory over Lucknow. In that match, he delivered a standout performance, claiming three wickets for 36 runs, enabling CSK to restrict Lucknow to 203 runs. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award.

Dian Forrester, who made his international debut for South Africa against New Zealand in March 2026, joins CSK after having played five international matches and scoring 83 runs.

This signing comes amid a season where CSK has faced several injury challenges. Earlier on the same day, they announced that Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha would replace injured pacer Ramakrishna Ghosh, who suffered a broken foot on his IPL debut.

CSK has experienced a series of setbacks, losing Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis to a hamstring injury before the season began. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed also became unavailable due to a quadricep injury, and young batter Ayush Mhatre faced a hamstring issue during the tournament.

Additionally, South African batter Dewald Brevis missed the first three matches due to a side strain. Veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni and Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson have yet to play in IPL 2026.

Despite the injury struggles, CSK is still in the race for a playoff spot. The five-time champions currently sit fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches, keeping their hopes of advancing alive as the league stage approaches its conclusion.
