Kohli’s Heroics Lead RCB to Victory Over KKR

Virat Kohli displayed an exceptional performance, scoring a magnificent century as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) triumphed over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in their IPL 2026 match on Wednesday, May 13. Pursuing a tough target of 193 runs in Raipur, Kohli showcased his skill and calmness, finishing not out at 105 runs off just 60 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes.

Kohli, who was looking to bounce back after two consecutive duck scores, came out strong from the start. He reached his half-century in just 32 balls and picked up the pace superbly as the innings progressed. Notably, he achieved his century in 58 deliveries, adding yet another remarkable chapter to his T20 career.

The RCB captain had a bit of luck when Rovman Powell dropped him while he was on 21 runs, and KKR would regret that missed chance. Kohli formed a vital partnership worth 92 runs with Devdutt Padikkal, who contributed 39 runs, ensuring RCB was well ahead in the chase. Jitesh Sharma later hit a boundary to confirm the victory with five balls remaining.

This win elevated RCB to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 16 points from 12 matches, greatly enhancing their chances for a top-two finish. For KKR, this loss was a significant setback in their quest for the playoffs.

Records Set by Virat Kohli Against KKR

  • 279: Kohli became the most-capped player in IPL history, surpassing the famous MS Dhoni, who has played in 278 matches since 2008.

  • 14,000: He is only the sixth player to reach 14,000 runs in T20 cricket, joining greats like Chris Gayle and David Warner.

  • Speed Record: Kohli is now the fastest player to hit 14,000 runs in T20, breaking Chris Gayle’s record of 423 innings.

  • T20 Centuries: Kohli became the fourth player to score 10 or more centuries in T20 cricket, joining Chris Gayle, Babar Azam, and David Warner.

  • Player of the Match: With this performance, he is now tied with Rohit Sharma for the most Player of the Match awards in IPL history, both with 21 awards.

  • Multiple Centuries: Kohli is the second player in IPL history to score multiple centuries against two different teams, having achieved this feat against KKR and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions. Jos Buttler is the only other player to have done so.

As the IPL 2026 season continues, Kohli’s stellar performance has not only boosted RCB’s position but has also highlighted his remarkable talent and consistency on the field.
