Christopher Nolan Celebrates Indian Premier of ‘The Odyssey’ in Mumbai
Mumbai: Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan expressed his admiration for Indian moviegoers during the release of his latest film, The Odyssey, in Mumbai on Friday. He described the audience as “among the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable cinematic crowds in the world” ahead of the film’s global launch on July 17.
This marks the first time Nolan is debuting a film in India, adapting Homer’s The Odyssey into a breathtaking IMAX experience. Speaking at a special screening held at PVR INOX in Lower Parel, he shared how launching a project in India has long been a dream of his.
“It has always been a wish of mine to premiere a film here and share that experience with Indian audiences,” Nolan said.
This visit is Nolan’s third trip to India; he previously visited in 2019 while filming Tenet and in 2011 for The Dark Knight Rises, which included scenes shot at Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort.
Accompanied by his wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas, and actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland, Nolan felt the warmth of the audience. Damon emphasized the significance of the screening, noting that this was the film’s first showing to the public. “You are the first true audience to see the movie, and it means everything to us,” he remarked.
Holland thanked the audience for their incredible energy, stating, “No one brings excitement to a movie theater the way you do in India.” Thomas described the event as an overwhelming culmination of the filmmaking journey.
The film’s premiere in India spans two days, beginning with this screening and followed by a special presentation for Indian film industry professionals the next day.
The Odyssey features Matt Damon as Odysseus, narrating the legendary hero’s challenging journey home after the Trojan War. It also stars Holland alongside an impressive cast, including Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. Notably, the film is shot entirely using IMAX cameras, making it a unique visual experience.
