On Day 2 of the warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval in Canberra, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal faced a challenging spell from Australian fast bowler Jack Nisbet. Right from his first delivery, Jaiswal seemed a bit unsettled, swinging hard at Nisbet but struggling to make contact.
Jaiswal had a stroke of luck early on as a couple of his aggressive shots flew past slip fielders for boundaries. He also encountered a bouncer that caught him off guard, leading to some banter between him and Nisbet. Unfazed, Jaiswal told the Aussie bowler to focus on bowling rather than chatting. Despite a few boundaries, he was clearly rattled by the pace of Nisbet’s bowling.
After a shaky start, Jaiswal managed to settle down and scored 45 runs off 59 balls, hitting nine fours during his innings. However, he was eventually caught by Jack Clayton off the bowling of Charlie Anderson while attempting to play a big shot. Meanwhile, his opening partner KL Rahul continued to show his form from Perth, displaying a cautious approach at the crease.
Rahul was again moved up the order for this match, with captain Rohit Sharma letting him take the opening slot. In his 44-ball innings, Rahul looked very composed, showcasing solid defensive skills and capitalizing on any loose deliveries. He decided to retire himself out after scoring 27 runs off 44 balls to give other players a chance to bat.
Unfortunately, captain Rohit Sharma had a disappointing outing in his first game in Australia, managing only 3 runs before being dismissed by Charlie Anderson for 11 runs. Earlier in the match, India bowled out the Prime Minister’s XI for 240 runs in just 43.1 overs, with Harshit Rana leading the attack and taking 4 wickets for 44 runs in six overs. Sam Konstas was the top scorer for the opposition, making 107 runs off 97 balls, while Hanno Jacobs added 61 runs from 60 deliveries.
