India and Japan Explore Stronger Ties in Defence and Investment

New Delhi, May 4 (ANI) — Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla expressed optimism about enhancing India’s partnership with Japan during a recent meeting with Japanese lawmakers. Shringla highlighted potential areas for collaboration, including defence, investments, energy, and cultural exchanges.

In a message on X, Shringla shared that he had discussions with Takayuki Kobayashi, Chairperson of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), along with two other senior members. The meeting, which also included BJP MPs Arun Singh, Tejasvi Surya, and Alok Sharma, was facilitated by Japan’s Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi.

Shringla emphasized the strong political will currently shaping India-Japan relations. “We have a wonderful foundation to build on, and both countries can work closer together, especially in investments and defence,” he stated.

The meetings also included a visit to the BJP headquarters, where the delegation interacted with BJP National President Nitin Nabin.

Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs welcomed Japan’s recent decision to review its policies on transferring defence equipment and technology. This shift is seen as a significant step towards bolstering the bilateral security relationship.

At a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted, “This is a milestone for our special strategic and global partnership with Japan.” He emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration in security and technology sectors, which is crucial for bolstering national resilience.

The recent amendments in Japan’s policies, announced on April 21, aim to enhance defence and security cooperation between the two nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart, Prime Minister Takaichi, last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in South Africa, reinforcing their commitment to this partnership.
