Derby Sportswear Company Supports Local Vet’s World Record Attempt

Published: May 2, 2026

A sportswear manufacturer in Derby, HUUB, is backing local veterinarian Laura Massey-Pugh in her ambitious quest to set a new world record. Laura plans to complete 40 iron-distance triathlons over 40 consecutive days, starting on May 6.

At 39 years old, Laura aims to be the first woman to finish four “Decas,” which are 10 triathlons back-to-back. If successful, she will add to her achievements, having previously set a record for the fastest tandem cycling journey with her husband, Stevie, covering 18,000 miles across 21 countries in just 179 days.

Laura’s upcoming challenge will see her covering a total of 5,624 miles—roughly the distance from Derby to Los Angeles. Unlike her previous strenuous journey around the globe, this triathlon challenge will take place entirely near her home.

The swim portion will be held in a 25-meter pool at Etwall Leisure Centre, followed by a cycling segment of 112 miles along the A5132 between Hilton and Swarkestone. She will finish with a 26.2-mile marathon on the Great Northern Greenway, a former railway line just a short distance from home.

Each day of this endeavor is expected to take Laura around 16 hours. “I’m very excited to be taking on this challenge,” she remarked. “While I’ve participated in many big events, I’m just an endurance enthusiast trying to push my limits as a solo athlete. It’s a new experience for me.”

Laura believes the daily routine may not sound thrilling, but with support from friends and spectators, she anticipates plenty of motivation along the way.

Currently, the official record for the most consecutive iron-distance triathlons stands at 120, held by German athlete Jonas Deichmann. However, there is no established record for women. The closest achievement seems to be the triple Deca, totaling 30 triathlons in 30 days, also accomplished by a German competitor.

Training since December with a professional coach, Laura also aims to use her event to raise funds for charity, supporting YMCA Derbyshire and Alfreton Youth Umbrella Provision (AYUP).

Dean Jackson MBE, founder of HUUB, expressed enthusiasm for Laura’s challenge, stating, “We’re excited to provide her the latest technology and equipment to help her succeed. Our ethos is that it’s often what you can’t see that helps you achieve speed, and Laura’s gear is packed with innovations to enhance her performance. Plus, it’s great to cheer her on right here in Derby!”
