Rajasthan Royals Captain in Hot Water for Vaping Incident

Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Riyan Parag, is facing scrutiny from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after he was reportedly seen vaping in the team’s dressing room during a match against the Punjab Kings on April 28. A BCCI source confirmed that the team would need to provide an explanation for his actions.

The controversy began when a video of Parag vaping in the dressing room circulated widely on social media, sparking strong reactions from fans and cricket commentators. This incident has raised concerns about player behavior and professionalism, particularly during important events like the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The match itself was an exciting one. Rajasthan Royals staged a thrilling comeback, chasing down a daunting target of 223 runs. They clinched a remarkable six-wicket win with just four balls to spare, thanks to impressive performances from players like Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 runs), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (43 runs), and a steady finish from Donovan Ferreira (52 runs). However, instead of celebrating this victory, discussions quickly shifted to Parag’s off-field actions.

As of now, there has been no official word on whether he will face punishment. The BCCI is still reviewing the situation and may take further steps based on their findings. This event serves as a reminder of the strict conduct standards expected from players, especially in high-stakes tournaments like the IPL, where even small infractions can lead to significant backlash.

In another update, reports suggest that if the allegations against Parag are confirmed, he could potentially face a two-match suspension. Should that happen, Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to step in as captain for the upcoming games.

Parag, who took over leadership responsibilities this season after Sanju Samson’s trade to Chennai Super Kings, has had a challenging season, managing only 117 runs at an average of 14.63. His performance and leadership decisions have faced increasing criticism from fans and pundits alike.

This incident isn’t the first time Rajasthan Royals have attracted attention for the wrong reasons this season. Earlier, the team’s manager, Romi Bhinder, was caught on camera using a phone in the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, prompting BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit to investigate. Although he received a warning along with a fine of ₹1 lakh, it highlighted ongoing concerns about adherence to tournament protocols.

As Rajasthan Royals prepare to face Delhi Capitals in Jaipur next, attention will likely shift back to the game, even as the fallout from Parag’s vaping incident continues to linger.
