In a moment of rare agreement, the House of Representatives has approved a bill to extend temporary protections for Haitian immigrants. This legislation is seen as a counter to President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the program.

The bill, mainly supported by House Democrats with some backing from Republican members, aims to give Haitians an additional three years of temporary protected status. This extension would allow many Haitian immigrants to stay in the United States without the worry of being deported.

The vote count was 224 in favor and 204 against, prompting applause from those in the chamber. However, the bill’s future is uncertain in the Senate, and it is likely that the president would veto it if it passes there.
