Buckingham Palace: The World’s Most Expensive Home

Buckingham Palace, located in London, is recognized as the most expensive house globally, with an estimated value of about $4.9 billion. This iconic residence serves as the official home of the British monarch, featuring a total of 775 rooms and welcoming around 50,000 visitors each year for various events, including receptions and state banquets.

In addition to the many guests, approximately 530,000 tourists explore the palace every year. A highlight for many is witnessing the famous Changing of the Guard ceremony, a long-standing tradition that captivates thousands of onlookers.

Those interested in touring the inside of Buckingham Palace can visit the state rooms during summer and on select winter and spring dates, thanks to guided tours offered by the Royal Collection Trust.

Since 1837, Buckingham Palace has stood as the residence for the UK’s sovereigns. Among its myriad rooms are 19 state rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. The palace is renowned for its stunning interiors, including the White Drawing Room, the Throne Room, the Ballroom, and the impressive 47-meter Picture Gallery, filled with remarkable art.

Another significant area is the Grand Staircase, which complements the sprawling 39-acre Palace Garden. The balcony of Buckingham Palace is particularly famous, as it has hosted royal appearances for generations.

While Buckingham Palace reigns as the most expensive palace, another notable property is Antilia in Mumbai, India. Owned by business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, this mansion holds the Guinness World Record as the most expensive private house, valued between $1 billion and $2 billion. Standing at 570 feet tall and comprising 27 stories, Antilia features luxurious amenities, including swimming pools, a spa, and a private theater, along with ample parking and even helipads.

Buckingham Palace remains a jewel in England, combining rich history with grandeur, drawing tourists from all over the world.
