Antoine Griezmann Joins Orlando City SC
Orlando City SC has officially signed forward Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, with the contract set to begin in July 2026, as announced by both clubs on Tuesday. The deal will last through the 2027-28 season, with an option to extend into the 2028-29 season.
Griezmann, who is 35 years old, is known for being Atletico’s all-time leading scorer. Over his career, he has netted 298 goals and provided 132 assists in 792 matches for Atletico, Barcelona, and Real Sociedad. His most notable achievements came during his time at Atletico, where he scored 211 goals and won the Spanish Super Cup in 2014 along with the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018.
This season, Griezmann has recorded 13 goals and four assists across all competitions. Orlando City sent out a statement about their new signing, highlighting Griezmann’s impressive track record and his status as a global soccer icon and 2018 FIFA World Cup champion. The statement noted that he will join the team as a Designated Player when the Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window opens in July, pending medical approval and the necessary paperwork.
In addition to his successful club career, Griezmann has made 137 appearances for the French national team, scoring 44 goals. He played an integral role in France’s triumph at the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 UEFA Nations League while setting a record for 84 consecutive appearances for his country.
