IPL 2026: KKR Eyes Simarjeet Singh, KM Asif, and Sandeep Warrier as Potential Replacements for Harshit Rana

Kolkata Knight Riders Look to Strengthen Pace Attack for IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), three-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), are actively seeking new bowlers to fill the gap left by the injured Harshit Rana as they prepare for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Former Chennai Super Kings bowlers Simarjeet Singh and KM Asif, along with seasoned player Sandeep Warrier, are among the names being considered.

Rana, who suffered a ligament strain in his right knee during a warm-up match for the T20 World Cup against South Africa, has since had surgery and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Unfortunately, there is no set date for his return, prompting KKR to explore other options for their bowling lineup.

Trial Sessions Underway

Simarjeet, who has played for CSK in 2022 and 2024, has shown promise with 11 wickets in 14 IPL matches. The tall quick bowler can deliver powerful yorkers and previously had success with CSK, taking nine wickets in ten matches during the 2022 season, though his performance dipped last year with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Asif and Warrier participated in trials during KKR’s initial training session at Eden Gardens, while Simarjeet impressed earlier during trials in Mumbai. Asif, known for his pace, made a mark with a career-best performance of 5/24 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, despite facing some injuries. He made his IPL debut with CSK in 2018 and has not played consistently since, last appearing for Rajasthan Royals in 2023.

Warrier, who began his IPL journey with KKR in 2019 and has played for the franchise across three seasons, has taken eight wickets in ten matches.

Questions Surrounding Pathirana

Adding to the uncertainty, KKR is still waiting for clearance regarding Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana. Acquired for a hefty sum of Rs 18 crore, Pathirana is recovering from a calf strain incurred during the T20 World Cup against Australia. Sources indicate that ticket bookings for his travel are being made and cancelled almost daily as his return remains in limbo.

KKR also recently parted ways with left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, following a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In his place, they have recruited Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani.

Spotlight on Muzarabani

Muzarabani captured attention during his first training session as he was the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup, securing 13 wickets. His impressive 4/17 performance against Australia was pivotal in eliminating the former champions. Despite his lengthy international experience of over 200 wickets, Muzarabani has yet to make his IPL debut, having previously been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2025.

KKR still has other pace options in their squad, including Vaibhav Arora, Akash Deep, Kartik Tyagi, and a returning Umran Malik, all of whom are preparing for the season ahead.

As KKR looks to bolster their pace department, fans are eager to see how these potential new additions will impact the team’s performance in IPL 2026.
