Trump’s Unyielding Quest for Validation: Remarks at National Prayer Breakfast

WASHINGTON: Former President Donald Trump, who served two terms in office, continues to hold onto his belief that he won the 2020 election, despite losing to Joe Biden. Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, Trump shared that winning elections is crucial for his self-esteem.

“They rigged the second election. I had to win it. I needed it for my own ego,” Trump stated. He mentioned that without the victory, he would have struggled with a poor sense of self-worth for the rest of his life.

The 79-year-old businessman also expressed pride in his recent political comeback, where he easily defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. He remarked, “Now I really have a big ego. Beating these lunatics was incredible,” asserting that his recent victory further bolstered his confidence.

Despite multiple court rulings affirming the legitimacy of the 2020 election results, Trump maintains his claim of winning. Since returning to office last year, he has directed the Department of Justice to investigate the 2020 election outcome, causing concern among Democratic opponents and advocates for civil rights.

Recent developments in this ongoing saga include last week’s FBI search of an election center in Georgia. Agents confiscated around 700 boxes of electoral documents, including ballots from Fulton County, which has been a focal point in Trump’s allegations of voter fraud.

Additionally, Trump has suggested a controversial plan to “nationalize” elections, which would contradict the US Constitution. The Constitution assigns the regulation of elections to individual states, whether local or national.
