Trump Increasing Pressure on Iran Amid Rising Tensions
As tensions between the U.S. and Iran escalate, former President Donald Trump is stepping up his rhetoric concerning the Iranian regime. In a recent report, Trump mentioned that Iran has reached out multiple times in hopes of negotiating a deal, especially as a U.S. aircraft carrier enters Middle Eastern waters.
In the midst of these tensions, Iranian state media released what many believe are staged images of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This marked Khamenei’s first public appearance in weeks, where he was seen praying at the tomb of the Islamic Republic’s founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Opposition groups claim that the images aim more to rally the weakening military forces than to reassure the public.
Ali Safavi, a spokesperson for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, described these photos as “pure propaganda.” He argued that Khamenei is attempting to portray himself as fearless while simultaneously trying to boost the morale of his demoralized troops. “The presence of IRGC remains crucial for the regime, but they are feeling the strain as protests continue across the country,” Safavi added.
The situation is further complicated by recent calls from the European Parliament to classify the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. In response, Iranian lawmakers donned IRGC uniforms to show solidarity, with banners labeling the group as a key anti-terrorism force.
Safavi noted that any significant change within the IRGC would only happen with a shift in power dynamics and organized resistance on the ground. While Tehran’s government aims to project strength through these staged images, reality suggests that the regime is struggling against public dissent.
In a separate but related issue, Khamenei warned that any military action against Iran would lead to a broader conflict in the region. He emphasized that while Iran does not seek war, it is prepared to respond harshly if it is attacked.
As the situation continues to develop, Trump and other U.S. officials are closely monitoring Iran’s actions. Safavi concluded by remarking, “To engage with Iran is to engage with the IRGC, which is effectively the regime itself.”
