Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, traditional systems and global alliances have felt disrupted. This has reignited interest in gold and silver, assets that many once thought were outdated. The dynamic global scene, with the U.S., China, and Russia asserting their influence, appears to encourage military powers, who have been stockpiling gold to symbolize their independence and strength.
Central banks are increasingly looking for alternatives to the U.S. dollar, driving demand for sovereign gold. Meanwhile, private investment is what really pushes gold prices higher.
This year’s surge in gold and silver prices has been the fastest since 1979, a year marked by major global upheaval, including double-digit inflation, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and the Iranian hostage crisis. A more fitting comparison might be the early 1970s, when gold prices soared due to the “Nixon Shock,” which detached the dollar from gold.
While replicating 2025’s performance will be challenging, with Trump holding the presidency for at least three more years, the ongoing decline of Western dominance and cooperation suggests that the appeal of gold and silver will likely continue.
