Kapur Family Inheritance Dispute Heats Up
The inheritance battle in the Kapur family has intensified following sharp remarks from Mandhira Kapur against her late brother Sunjay Kapur’s widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. During a recent episode of the podcast InControversial with Pooja Chadhuri, Mandhira described the current situation as “major theft” and “pure robbery,” questioning the validity of the Will that was submitted to the Delhi High Court.
Mandhira accused Priya of keeping details about the Will secret, stating, “You wanted an NDA and a sealed envelope for the Will. Now, you’re resisting a forensic analysis. What are you hiding?” She vowed to fight the case relentlessly, emphasizing that the claims made by Priya are unfounded. “Who is she to deny payment for tuition fees? This isn’t her money; it’s pure theft.”
Mandhira claims that following Sunjay’s death, their mother, Rani Kapur, was coerced into signing documents without clear understanding. “She was grieving and didn’t know what she signed. We’ve been robbed of what belongs to us,” she said.
She further expressed frustration over how Sunjay’s children are referenced in the Will. “The Will names Priya’s child as ‘the daughter,’ while ignoring my brother’s biological kids, Samaira and Kiaan. This rewriting of family ties has to stop.”
Her concerns were echoed in court by senior counsel Mahesh Jethmalani, who critiqued the discrepancies in the Will. He noted that the document appears to have been created on a device belonging to someone connected to Priya, rather than Sunjay himself. “It makes no sense that a Will would be finalized while he was on holiday with his son.”
Mandhira shared her worry that the family’s legacy is being disregarded. “We built this family name together. You can’t just erase us.”
A Broader Narrative
Mandhira highlighted past disputes within the family to show a pattern of control shifting towards Priya. After Sunjay’s death, the family’s name was removed from the promoter group of Sona BLW, which Mandhira believes is a significant move against the legacy her brother helped establish.
She indicated that Sunjay never intended for Priya to hold power over the Sona Group, referencing her brief removal from a key board position as evidence of internal family issues.
Mandhira criticized Priya’s allies, specifically Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, saying, “They are just supporters of Priya now. Their loyalty to our family is gone.”
Mandhira emphasized the emotional toll this situation has taken on Sunjay’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, stating they’re losing not only their father’s name but access to their rightful legacy.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Mandhira remains hopeful for a resolution, suggesting that if they can review the documents signed by their mother after 2017, a settlement might be possible. However, she firmly declared, “I will fight until the end to protect my father’s legacy.”
