Jeff Bezos Predicts Space Living Within Decades
In a rare public talk during Italian Tech Week in Turin, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos voiced his belief that millions of people will inhabit space in the coming decades. Speaking alongside John Elkann from Italy’s Agnelli family, Bezos emphasized that many will choose to live in space simply because they want to.
He suggested that robots will handle heavy tasks while large artificial intelligence data centers operate in orbit. This perspective seems to contrast with space rival Elon Musk, who envisions a million people living on Mars by 2050. The differing visions of these billionaire entrepreneurs have led to discussions about how realistic their timelines are.
Bezos also shared his enthusiasm for the current surge in AI investments, stating that this is a positive industrial trend, not just a passing financial bubble. “There has never been a better time to be excited about the future,” he proclaimed, highlighting his optimistic views on technology and space exploration.
Looking forward, Bezos mentioned that large-scale data centers could be established in space in the next 10 to 20 years. He pointed out that constant solar energy availability could make these space centers more efficient than those on Earth, which require significant electricity and water to cool their systems.
“These large training clusters will be better suited in space due to 24/7 solar power,” Bezos explained during his conversation with Elkann. “The cost of these space data centers will likely be lower than those on Earth in the next few decades.”
He believes that moving infrastructure to space is part of a broader goal of enhancing life on our planet.
