Apple’s Foldable iPhone: New Hints Emerge from iOS 27

Apple’s much-anticipated foldable iPhone might still be months away, but recent software updates give us some exciting clues about the device. According to a report from Bloomberg, the new iOS 27 includes several hints pointing to this innovative smartphone.

Hidden code found in the first beta version of iOS 27 reveals important features related to a foldable design. A software researcher named M1Astra discovered terms like “foldState,” “mechanicalAngleDegrees,” and “angleDegrees,” indicating that Apple’s software is designed to detect the device’s position—whether it’s folded or unfolded.

This kind of functionality is similar to what’s seen in Samsung’s foldable phones, where the software adapts based on the device’s state. The new iOS also suggests Apple may support multiple displays, with references to a secondary screen and extra light sensors, aligning with features typical of foldable devices.

Moreover, iOS 27 introduces full-page widgets for apps like Weather, Music, and News, which would enhance the user experience on a larger, foldable screen.

Previous reports suggest that Apple plans to unveil its foldable iPhone in September, likely starting at around $2,000 (approximately ₹190,655). This device will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series and other premium foldable smartphones.

While Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the foldable iPhone, the growing number of software hints indicates a serious effort to introduce this new type of product. As Apple moves into the foldable market, iOS 27 may provide the first look at their vision of merging the compactness of an iPhone with the larger display experience of an iPad.
