New Delhi: India Should Not Be Unfairly Targeted Over Ukraine Conflict, Says Jaishankar
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, emphasized that the country should not face unfair scrutiny relating to the Ukraine conflict. This statement was made following a phone conversation with Elina Valtonen, Finland’s Foreign Minister, on Saturday.
Jaishankar’s comments come after the U.S. accused India of assisting Russia by purchasing its crude oil at lower prices. He expressed that the discussions with Valtonen focused on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its wider impact.
“We have always believed in the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. It’s essential that India is not wrongly criticized in this situation,” Jaishankar mentioned in a recent social media update.
Recently, U.S. trade advisor Peter Navarro stated that President Trump’s tariffs on Indian goods are not just about unfair trade practices but also aim to cut off support that India allegedly provides to Russia’s military efforts.
India has firmly denied these allegations. Interestingly, the U.S. has not made similar remarks about China, which is currently the largest buyer of Russian crude oil.
