Ekta Kapoor Parts Ways with ALTT: Balaji Telefilms Responds to Government’s OTT Crackdown on ‘Vulgar’ Content

Following a recent action by the Indian government, which targeted 24 OTT platforms for allegedly showing explicit content, ALTT, previously known as ALTBalaji, has become a topic of discussion. In light of this, Balaji Telefilms Limited has made a public statement, clarifying that producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, are not associated with ALTT anymore.

On July 26, Balaji Telefilms described itself as a “professionally run media organization” and highlighted that ALTT is now solely operated by the parent company, following the merger of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. with Balaji Telefilms effective June 20, 2025.

Addressing media reports that suggested ALTT was disabled by authorities while still being linked to Ekta and Shobha Kapoor, the statement emphasized, “Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not connected in any way with ALTT.” It further noted that both have not held any roles related to the platform since stepping down in June 2021.

The controversy arose from a directive from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which instructed internet service providers to block the 24 OTT platforms identified for distributing vulgar or sexually explicit content. Balaji Telefilms called for responsible and accurate reporting on the matter, distancing themselves from any current issues surrounding the ban.
