Lima, Ohio – The American Heart Association has recognized Lima Memorial Health System with its prestigious Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for its dedication to providing prompt and effective treatment for stroke patients.
Stroke ranks as the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and is a significant contributor to disability, making timely intervention essential.
“Here at Lima Memorial, we prioritize time. The adage ‘time is brain’ reflects our approach,” explained Dr. Russell Maxon, the medical director of the stroke program. “We aim to quickly get patients showing stroke symptoms to a CT scanner and have a stroke neurologist assess them without delay. If a patient is eligible for treatments to dissolve or remove clots, we want those procedures done as soon as possible. The quicker we act, the better the chances for a positive recovery post-stroke.”
