In the recent bypolls for Ludhiana West, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) selected Jiwan Gupta as their candidate, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) put forward Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora. This election was necessary due to the passing of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi.
As stated by the Election Commission, bypolls took place in several areas including 24-Kadi (SC) and 87-Visavadar in Gujarat, 35-Nilambur in Kerala, 64-Ludhiana West in Punjab, and 80-Kaliganj in West Bengal. Voters cast their ballots at 1,354 polling stations across these regions.
Polling commenced at 7 am on June 19 for the seats in Nilambur, Ludhiana West, Kaliganj, Visavadar, and Kadi.
In the Nilambur constituency, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) nominated M Swaraj, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) chose Aryadan Shoukath, and the BJP’s contender is Adv. Mohan George. This bypoll arose after LDF independent legislator PV Anvar resigned and joined the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) following a split with the ruling coalition.
In the Visavadar constituency in Gujarat, the BJP has chosen Kirit Patel, while Congress has nominated Nitin Ranpariya and AAP has submitted former Gujarat president Gopal Italia.
For the Kadi seat, the BJP’s candidate is Rajendra Chavda, Congress has put forward former MLA Ramesh Chavda, and AAP has named Jagdish Chavda as their candidate.
