Great Britain Claims Top Spot in Rome Archery Event
Great Britain just narrowly took the lead over India and Italy in the medal standings as the Rome 2025 archery competition concluded on Saturday at the Stadio dei Marmi. The day was filled with exciting gold medal finals in both individual and team categories.
One of the standout moments came from India’s Rakesh Kumar, who entered the event as the top-ranked archer. Despite being the third seed, Kumar delivered an impressive performance to defeat the favored Nathan MacQueen from Britain, a seasoned competitor and Paralympic gold medalist. Kumar described his victory, saying, "It feels very good, coming all the way from India, from a small village in Katra. Winning the gold medal and finishing with three perfect arrows — 10-10-10 — is an amazing feeling."
Last year, Kumar finished just shy of the podium, placing fourth in the Paris individual competition. However, he did contribute to a mixed team bronze alongside Sheetal Devi and also secured a mixed team gold at the 2023 World Championships.
India continued to shine as Dhanna Ram Godara claimed gold by beating Cameron Radigan in a tense recurve men’s final that ended 7-3 after five sets. Additionally, Milena Olszewska, who won bronze at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, achieved her first major victory since 2018 by defeating Dorothea Poimenidou.
With such remarkable performances, the event showcased not only the athletes’ skills but also their determination and passion for the sport.
