Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Reach Singapore Open Semifinals

India’s top men’s doubles badminton team, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, are on track for their first title of the season after a strong performance at the Singapore Open. On Friday, they defeated the world No. 1 Malaysian duo, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, in straight games, winning 21-17, 21-15 in just 39 minutes.

After facing some fitness challenges in recent weeks, the Indian pair showed impressive defense and skill at the front court. Chirag expressed his excitement about the victory, saying, "This win feels really good, especially after we lost to them earlier this year at the India Open. It’s a sweet victory for us."

Looking ahead, Satwik and Chirag will compete against the third-seeded Malaysian pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. "We’ve played against them many times, and while we couldn’t capitalize at the India Open, we’re focused on our own strategy this time," Satwik shared.

This semifinal appearance marks their third of the season, following previous reaches in the Malaysia and India Opens. The duo encountered setbacks in March when they had to withdraw from the All England Championships due to injury concerns. Chirag admitted he had doubts about his ability to perform in Singapore after a challenging recovery.

"I’m feeling better every day," he said. "Honestly, we weren’t sure we could compete here since we only trained for about ten days over the last two months."

The match started with both teams showing strong competitive spirits. The score stayed close early on, but Satwik and Chirag pulled ahead just before the interval. They maintained their lead throughout, adapting well to their opponents’ plays.

With some strategic smashes and consistent teamwork, they secured their place in the semifinals, excited to continue their journey in this prestigious tournament.
