Strengthening Bonds: Indian-Scottish Relations in Moray

A diplomatic visit aimed at enhancing Indian-Scottish connections took place recently in Moray, where the Consul General of India, Sri Siddharth Malik, met with the local Indian community at St John’s Church in Forres.

The visit began at the Moray Council headquarters in Elgin, where Mr. Malik explored opportunities to boost ties between India and the region. Later, he headed to St John’s Church to engage in conversations and foster friendships within the community.

Reverend Doctor Hamilton Inbadas warmly welcomed over 20 Indian community members to the church. He remarked, “Despite being a small place, we are a remarkable group. Our community plays an important role in Scottish life, contributing significantly in areas like aerospace research, health and social care, education, and community services.”

This gathering provided a valuable opportunity for the Indian community to share their experiences directly with Mr. Malik, who listened to their stories, answered questions, and highlighted the support available from the Consulate. Attendees also enjoyed refreshments and were grateful for the chance to connect in a friendly environment.

During his visit, Mr. Malik mentioned an upcoming Consular Service Camp in Inverness on May 31. This event will allow residents to access important consular services, including passport renewals and OCI applications.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Malik had a productive meeting with Moray Council’s chief executive, Karen Greaves, council leader Kathleen Robertson, and vice lord-lieutenant Lucy Mackenzie. They discussed potential areas for collaboration between India and Moray in sectors like trade, textiles, education, and cultural exchange.

Mr. Malik expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he received and acknowledged the council’s dedication to strengthening their partnership. Revd Inbadas thanked him for his visit and expressed eagerness for further engagement with the Consulate in the future.
