New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to meet with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Monday. He will provide a detailed update on Operation Sindoor and the recent strain in India-Pakistan relations.

The committee, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, aims to discuss the diplomatic, military, and regional impacts stemming from India’s recent military actions. This meeting follows rising tensions after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which led to strong rebukes from New Delhi.

In retaliation, the Indian military initiated Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist bases across the border. This action resulted in several days of military confrontations, but both nations agreed to cease hostilities on May 10.

During the briefing, Misri is expected to address a variety of topics, including the current status of diplomatic talks with Pakistan, security issues along the border, and the overall impact on regional stability. Sources suggest that Misri will highlight India’s shifting foreign policy, particularly in light of evolving security challenges.

He has previously discussed important foreign policy topics, such as India’s changing relations with neighboring nations like Bangladesh and recent developments with countries such as Canada.

This meeting is crucial due to the delicate nature of India-Pakistan ties, where maintaining military preparedness alongside diplomatic efforts is vital.

Meanwhile, the Committee on Water Resources, led by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, will also be receiving updates from government departments on matters like flooding during the monsoon, soil erosion, riverbank protection, and issues concerning transboundary rivers.
