Rohit Sharma Honored with Stand Unveiling at Wankhede Stadium
On May 16, the Wankhede Stadium celebrated Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma with the unveiling of a stand named in his honor. This special occasion was hosted by the Mumbai Cricket Association, recognizing Rohit’s remarkable contributions to the sport.
Rohit’s proud parents had the honor of unveiling the stand, marking a significant moment in his career. Alongside him, the association also paid tribute to former Indian captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar. The event was attended by several prominent figures in cricket, with former India coach Ravi Shastri among the guests.
Shastri shared an affectionate moment with Rohit, giving him a warm hug and playfully urging him to hit a six at the newly named stand. "Smack one there," he joked, prompting laughter from the captain, who replied, "Ho jayega" (It will happen).
Reflecting on this honor, Rohit expressed his gratitude and amazement at having a stand dedicated to him. He shared, "I never dreamed something like this would happen. It’s a truly special moment for me." He emphasized the significance of the Wankhede Stadium, a place where he has created countless memories.
"To have my name alongside legends of the game and such an esteemed political figure is overwhelming. I am incredibly grateful," Rohit noted. Looking ahead, he mentioned how surreal it would feel to play at the stadium with the stand bearing his name when he represents India on May 21 against DC.
This unveiling not only celebrated Rohit’s achievements but also highlighted the deep connection athletes often have with iconic venues in their careers.
