India ushered in a new era as two promising talents, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy, received their international caps during the first T20I against Bangladesh on the crisp afternoon of October 6 at the picturesque New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. In the lead-up to this momentous match, all eyes had been riveted on Mayank Yadav, whose blistering pace had left batsmen in a state of bewilderment throughout the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).

This 22-year-old sensation ignited the cricketing landscape, consistently propelling the ball at speeds exceeding 150 kmph. With LSG, he made quite a statement, bagging seven wickets across four matches while boasting a stellar average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 6.98, until misfortune struck in the form of injuries that sidelined him for the majority of the season.

Mayank’s inaugural IPL outing was nothing short of spectacular; he thundered onto the scene with an electrifying performance of 3/27 in four overs, leading LSG to a gripping 21-run victory over PBKS and earning the coveted Player of the Match accolade. He didn’t stop there; his next venture yielded another Player of the Match title, this time against RCB, as he skittled the opposition with a frugal 3/14 in just four overs, propelling his team to a 28-run triumph.

However, the euphoria of his debut was swiftly overshadowed when a side strain curtailed his participation after just three matches, forcing him to watch from the sidelines for an extended period. He did manage to make a comeback for his franchise’s finale against MI, winding up with figures of 1/31 in 3.1 overs.

India wins the toss and opts to bowl first

On the flip side, Nitish Kumar Reddy also captured headlines for his all-around prowess with SRH, amassing 303 runs from 11 games in IPL 2024, at a commendable average of 33.66 and a strike rate of 142.92, punctuated by a couple of half-centuries. Additionally, he chipped in with three wickets, showcasing his right-arm seam capabilities.

As the tension mounted, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav took center stage at the toss, opting to bowl first in what marked the beginning of the series. “We’ll look to bowl first. The humidity is palpable, and I doubt the wicket will transform later on. It’s always an exhilarating experience to return home and compete in familiar conditions. We’re brimming with anticipation. The squad is teeming with talent, and the energy is infectious—most importantly, the eagerness to learn is palpable. The stadium is stunning, and the crowd appears delightful; we’re excited to play here. Notably, a few talents such as Tilak Varma, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, and Jitesh will miss out,” stated Suryakumar Yadav.

India (Playing XI): Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (w), Suryakumar Yadav (c), Nitish Reddy, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav.
