India-Pakistan Tensions Continue to Escalate

Recent reports indicate heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, particularly in the northern regions. Defence officials revealed that drones were spotted at 26 different locations along the international border and the Line of Control. Areas affected include Baramulla, Srinagar, and Jammu, among others. These drones, including suspected armed aircraft, pose a risk to both civilian and military targets.

In one alarming incident, an armed drone targeted a residential area, injuring local residents. The Indian Armed Forces remain on high alert, utilizing counter-drone systems to monitor and engage these aerial threats. Explosions were reported in multiple locations, including Srinagar’s airport area and several towns in Punjab, as border zones faced blackouts.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed these developments, criticizing Pakistan’s attempts to deny their military activities as deceptive. He emphasized that India has responded adequately to Pakistan’s provocations. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi from the Indian Army shared that Pakistan deployed approximately 300-400 drones during a recent night, with preliminary investigations suggesting they were utilizing Turkish-made drones in their operations. Efforts to neutralize these drones have been effective, with at least one Pakistani drone attempting to strike a military base in Bathinda being thwarted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting with key defence officials amid increasing cross-border artillery fire, which recently resulted in civilian casualties. Tragically, one woman lost her life, and four others were injured after a shell hit their vehicle. Ongoing shelling has led to significant property damage and disruption for local communities.

On Friday morning, air raid sirens were activated in Chandigarh, warning residents of a possible drone strike, further underscoring the tense atmosphere in the region.
