Ten days after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, law enforcement agencies are still searching for the attackers. Security forces are actively conducting operations in thick forests and other areas, but the terrorists have yet to be captured.

There are growing concerns that the challenging terrain, along with support from Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and natural shelters like caves, may be helping the perpetrators evade detection. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently stationed in Pahalgam’s Baisaran valley, ramping up their efforts. NIA head Sadanand Date has also visited the area to assess the situation firsthand.

According to sources within the NIA, nearly 100 people have been questioned, and 15 individuals are under close watch. Raids have been initiated across Jammu and Kashmir at suspected OGW locations, including groups linked to separatist organizations like Hurriyat and Jamaat-e-Islami. Items collected from these searches suggest that there is ongoing support for the attackers, even though these groups are banned.

Regions such as Kupwara, Handwara, Anantnag, Tral, Pulwama, Sopore, Baramulla, and Bandipora are being closely monitored. Authorities are examining call records and technical data to uncover any connections between the OGWs and the attackers.

Security officials believe that the dense forests and natural cave systems in Anantnag district may be providing shelter to the militants. Intelligence reports suggest that the attackers are well-trained, likely receiving support from Pakistan, and have enough supplies to survive for more than a week.
