Zoho Founder Urges India to Focus on Development for Global Respect
Sridhar Vembu, the founder of Zoho, emphasizes the need for India to harness its own talent and resources to achieve global respect and recognition. His comments come in light of concerns raised by American investor and podcaster Eric Weinstein regarding increasing hostility towards India and its people on social media.
In a recent post, Vembu highlighted the importance of focusing on development rather than responding to hatred with negativity. “Until India thrives by leveraging the skills of our own people, we won’t achieve true respect on the world stage, regardless of which political ideology is in power,” he asserted.
Weinstein has pointed out a growing trend of unwarranted negative sentiments towards Indians and people of Indian origin, particularly in the United States. He expressed frustration over this hostility, stating that anyone harboring such feelings should feel free to unfollow him on social media.
Vembu responded to these sentiments by stressing that instead of reacting to racism, India should concentrate on building stronger businesses and institutions. He mentioned that when confronted with criticisms questioning the intelligence of Indians, the response should be one of constructive action, not hatred. “The racist comments act as a mirror, prompting us to ask: ‘If your nation is so smart, why are you trying to come here?’ Instead of responding with anger, we should focus on building,” he explained.
He also acknowledged that some Indians may share a pessimistic view about the country’s potential for development. However, Vembu’s stance remained consistent: he wants to respond to such negativity through constructive actions. “Believing in progress is essential for building successful companies and nations,” he noted, emphasizing that both require a mindset that promotes growth.
Vembu concluded with a rallying cry for the nation, stating, “Our primary focus should be on development—build, build, and build.” Through this vision, he hopes that India can cultivate its own strengths and earn the respect it deserves on a global scale.
