Rubio Urges Cubans to Work with CIA for Political Change
Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Cubans seeking political reform to consider working quietly with the CIA. His comments came on a day when former President Donald Trump also proposed sending Rubio to Cuba to negotiate a possible agreement.
In a post on social media platform X, Rubio emphasized the urgency for change, saying, “To those who seek to create positive change in Cuba – now is the time.” He pointed out the issues of unfulfilled promises and corruption, urging citizens to explore a partnership with U.S. intelligence for their cause.
While Rubio’s message encouraged collaboration with the CIA, he did not specify any particular operations or what this partnership would entail. As the son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio has been a strong critic of the Cuban government and has advocated for a more stringent U.S. stance towards it.
During a recent rally in Fort Myers, Florida, Trump mentioned the idea of U.S. military ships stopping near Cuba while discussing relations with Iran. Trump said, “We’ll do a little stopover now,” suggesting that U.S. naval ships could approach the Cuban coast during operations in the region.
He humorously added that Rubio could handle negotiations with the Cuban leadership. However, Trump did not elaborate on the details of any potential deal with Cuba, leaving ambiguity about whether he was hinting at actual military or diplomatic actions.
Both Trump’s and Rubio’s comments signal ongoing discussions about U.S.-Cuba relations amid the complex political landscape. As the situation evolves, many are watching closely to see how it might impact the future of Cuba and its relationship with the United States.
