Bayern Munich’s manager, Vincent Kompany, was taken to the hospital on Friday after he collapsed while observing a training session with the club’s reserve team. The 40-year-old had been dealing with a viral illness earlier in the week, which caused him to miss a pre-match press conference ahead of their Champions League match against Arsenal set for Tuesday. However, he was back on the sidelines on Wednesday to supervise the team’s preparation for the game.
While Kompany is receiving medical care, his coaching staff will handle training and match preparation. A statement from Bayern Munich confirmed the situation, saying, “Vincent Kompany had to seek medical treatment after collapsing during a session for FC Bayern’s reserves.”
Kompany will undergo a thorough medical examination and will stay in the hospital for the time being. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, emphasized that the manager’s health is the club’s top priority. He stated, “We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure his quick recovery.” Eberl reassured fans that Kompany will receive all necessary medical support and that his coaching team is fully capable of stepping in during his absence.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks stepped in to handle media responsibilities in Kompany’s absence as the team prepares for their upcoming match against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Bayern Munich currently leads the Bundesliga table, having collected 14 points from six matches, just ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.
The entire FC Bayern community is wishing Kompany a swift recovery and is focused on supporting him during this time.
