The highly anticipated spy comedy, Udta Teer, is set to hit theaters on October 23. This film is generating buzz for its unique storyline, humorous moments, and an impressive cast. The filmmakers have successfully navigated the censor approval process and here’s what we know about the changes made to the film.
Udta Teer has been awarded a U/A 13+ certificate, but the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) required one significant cut. A scene featuring blood on the map of India was flagged for removal. To address this, the filmmakers were asked to lengthen the scene preceding it so the cut wouldn’t seem abrupt.
In addition to the cut, the CBFC requested that the filmmakers add an anti-smoking warning, “Smoking Kills,” in five different scenes. They also needed to insert an anti-liquor disclaimer during a scene where alcohol is consumed. Fortunately, there were no alterations made to the dialogues or action sequences, keeping the film’s intended feel intact.
Once these adjustments were completed, Udta Teer received the green light from the CBFC. The film’s final runtime is 137.41 minutes, which translates to 2 hours and 17 minutes.
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, the late Mukul Dev, and others, Udta Teer is directed by Akash A Kaushik and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions alongside Sikhya Entertainment, run by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain.
The film’s plot centers around a Pakistani spy who manages to infiltrate India but ends up losing his memory. In a twist of fate, he begins to believe he is a staunch Indian patriot, leading to a series of comedic and chaotic events that unfold throughout the story.
