The Mizoram government announced on Friday that it will honor Indian women’s hockey players Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi with a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh each. This recognition comes after the players played vital roles in the team’s remarkable gold medal victory at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The Indian team made history by defeating the defending champions, China, with a score of 1-0 in the final match, ending a 44-year wait for the gold medal in women’s hockey at the Asian Games. Lalremsiami was instrumental in this victory, scoring the match’s only goal and ensuring India’s first women’s hockey gold since 1982.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma extended his congratulations to the Indian women’s hockey team for their triumphant achievement. He specifically praised Lalremsiami, an Arjuna Awardee, for her pivotal role in the team’s success.

The government’s announcement emphasizes the contributions of Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi in clinching the prestigious gold medal. Their performance not only solidified their place in the history of Indian sports but also secured India an automatic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, making this victory even more significant.

In addition to the state government’s acknowledgment, Hockey India has also announced a financial reward for the entire women’s hockey team. Each player will receive Rs 11 lakh, while support staff members will get Rs 5.5 lakh for their contributions.

The last time the Indian women’s team celebrated an Asian Games gold was in 1982, making this victory a monumental achievement after over four decades. The success of the team received widespread appreciation from leaders across the country.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the team, stating that the players have “created history” by bringing the Asian Games title back home. He highlighted the significance of their victory and India’s qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics, applauding the determination and excellence of the women athletes.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also offered his heartfelt congratulations, praising the team’s spirit, teamwork, and determination. He acknowledged their victory over China as a source of great pride for the nation and celebrated the hard work and resilience of the players.

For Mizoram, the achievements of Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi add a proud new chapter to the state’s legacy in Indian sports. The generous reward of Rs 25 lakh for each player reflects their significant contributions in what has become a landmark campaign for Indian women’s hockey.
