Actor Ajay Devgn and his wife Kajol have found themselves in a bit of trouble regarding their bungalow in Juhu after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a stop-work notice. The notice is tied to plans for a new salon and spa at their property, which has raised concerns from the Kapol Co-operative Housing Society. Residents are questioning whether it’s appropriate to change the residential property into a commercial one.
Despite the BMC’s action, the Devgn family insists they have secured all necessary approvals for the new project. The situation now depends on whether their submitted documents meet the requirements set by the local authorities.
The bungalow in question spans 7,802 square feet and is located in a prime area on N S Road No. 11 in Mumbai’s JVPD Scheme. It was the housing society that alerted the BMC after noticing construction related to the salon and spa.
In response to the housing society’s complaint, officials from the BMC’s K-West ward requested documentation about the intended commercial use. However, the BMC claimed they did not receive the required permissions, leading to the issuance of the stop-work notice.
Local council member Sudha Singh commented that the situation is currently being managed by the Building and Factory Department. She expressed concerns that, at first glance, the property did not have the necessary permission for commercial use.
In light of the notice, the Devgn family has reportedly requested four weeks to respond.
Concerns about the potential salon and spa are mainly focused on how it could affect the quiet residential neighborhood—namely, issues like increased visitors, parking challenges, security, and noise. The narrow roads in the area have also added to the residents’ worries.
It has been reported that Florian Hurel Salons Pvt Ltd has signed a five-year lease on the bungalow, starting with a monthly rent of Rs 16 lakh, which will increase annually. The housing society is questioning the legality of operating the salon and spa without proper approvals. They have requested documentation related to the project from the Devgns.
While BMC officials state that the necessary permissions were not presented, sources close to the Devgn family have underscored that all required approvals have indeed been obtained. They noted, “The requisite permissions and approvals from the concerned authorities have been duly secured.”
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the documentation will resolve the concerns raised by the BMC and the housing society regarding the proposed commercial activities at the bungalow.
