The Government of India has officially restructured the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). An announcement released on September 16, 2026, states that this new Board will take effect immediately and will serve a term of three years unless otherwise directed.
According to reports, this revised Board will consist of a Revising Committee, which includes 18 members from diverse sectors such as film, music, literature, and the arts. Notable figures on this list include actors Suniel Shetty and Pankaj Tripathi, actress Preity Zinta, renowned filmmaker Priyadarshan, celebrated musician Ricky Kej, and singer Hansraj Hans. Other members include Nila Madhab Panda, a filmmaker, and Rupali Ganguly, an actress and director.
The full roster of the new CBFC members features Vinod Anupam, Manoj Joshi, Abhishek Jain, Ricky Kej, Priyadarshan, Suniel Shetty, Hansraj Hans, Supriya Yarlagadda, Yatindra Mishra, Rupali Ganguly, Preity Zinta, Nila Madhab Panda, Pankaj Tripathi, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Pallavi Joshi, Nishigandha Wad, Waman Kendre, and Ramesh Patange.
The board plays a vital role in reviewing films submitted for public release and granting certifications according to regulatory standards established under the Cinematograph Act of 1952 and the updated Cinematograph (Certification) Rules of 2024. This restructuring highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to overseeing the film industry in India and ensuring that artistic works are evaluated fairly.
