A passenger ship disappeared while traveling across the Java Sea on Sunday, prompting an immediate search by Indonesian authorities. The vessel, named Virgo Transport 8, was carrying 240 people and was on its way from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin, located on the island of Borneo.

Communication with the ship was lost approximately 92 miles from its destination, leading the Banjarmasin Search and Rescue Office to initiate a search-and-rescue operation. Despite the concerning situation, officials reported that there were no confirmed fatalities or injuries as of that day. The exact reasons for the loss of contact are still unclear, and it is not known if weather conditions played a role in the incident.

The Virgo Transport 8 had set off from Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city, before losing touch with authorities during its journey. The search continues as teams work diligently to locate the missing vessel and ensure the safety of those on board.
