Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma Face Off in T20 League Showdown
On a lively Monday in Mohali, the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League brought an exciting match as Fazilka Falcons took on Amritsar Soormas. Long-time friends and teammates Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma found themselves playing for rival teams, having both come up through the same cricket system in Punjab.
The match kicked off with Gill of Fazilka making a strong impact early on. When Abhishek stepped in as the left-arm spinner for the 10th over, Gill didn’t hold back. He blasted the first ball straight for a six, followed by a four past deep mid-wicket, and capped it off with another six on the fifth delivery. This explosive performance brought him close to a significant half-century.
However, during the last ball of that over, Gill aimed for another big hit but was caught by Naman Dhir. He ended his innings with a remarkable 67 runs off just 35 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. Fazilka finished their innings at a solid 191/6, with contributions from Pranshu Pratap and Sanvir Singh, who each scored 40 runs.
Abhishek’s Quick Fire Batting
While Gill’s batting had set the pace, Abhishek quickly made his mark with the ball by leading the chase for the Soormas. Partnering with Sahaj Dhawan, he helped put together a rapid 79-run opening partnership. Abhishek was on fire, racking up 49 runs in just 15 balls, which included six fours and four sixes, boasting an impressive strike rate of over 300. Although he fell just short of a half-century, his explosive innings gave Amritsar the vital momentum they needed.
After Abhishek was dismissed, Fazilka managed to rein the scoring in and reduced the Soormas to 152/5. But Rahul Kumar stepped up, scoring an unbeaten 53 runs off 35 balls, guiding Amritsar to victory by four wickets with four balls remaining.
In the end, Gill’s 67 was the standout score of the day, while Abhishek’s quick 49 played a crucial role in shaping the match. The win kept Amritsar’s chances of reaching the semi-finals alive and was sure to spark conversation between the two players after an exciting night at I.S. Bindra Stadium.
