Ben Stokes Struggles Against Indian Bowlers in County Championship

Former England Test captain Ben Stokes faced another challenging match in the County Championship against Indian bowlers. Playing for Durham against Northamptonshire, Stokes was once again clean bowled, this time by Yuzvendra Chahal.

This moment occurred during the third ball of the 47th over when Chahal delivered a ball outside off-stump. Instead of playing an attacking shot, Stokes tried to defend it. Unfortunately, he left a significant gap between his bat and pad, allowing the ball to spin sharply and hit the top of his off-stump. Stokes was dismissed for just 14 runs, leaving Durham struggling at 187 for six. The team eventually got bowled out for a total of 205 runs, with Mayank Agarwal being the second-highest scorer for Durham, contributing 36 runs off 57 balls. Chahal ended the innings with impressive figures of four wickets for 36 runs in 15.2 overs. This defeat for Stokes continues a trend of falling to Indian spinners.

Earlier in the season, Stokes had shown promise in a match against Gloucestershire, where he was looking good at the crease. He scored 45 runs off 43 balls, hitting seven fours and a six, before his innings was cut short by Sai Kishore. Frustrated, Stokes looked to the sky and tossed his bat in disbelief as he made his way off the field.

Auqib Nabi Claims First County Wicket

In other County Championship news, Auqib Nabi made a strong impression during his debut for Surrey against Yorkshire, capturing his first county wicket. Kuldeep Yadav, trying to play a shot outside off stump, edged the ball, and the slip fielder took the catch without any trouble.

In this match, Nabi bowled impressively in his opening innings, sending down 15 overs, giving away just 33 runs, and claiming the wicket of Kuldeep. This promising start could signal a bright future for Nabi in County cricket.
