Smriti Mandhana delivered an incredible performance against Hong Kong on Thursday, scoring a remarkable century that sends a strong message to Pakistan ahead of their Women’s Asia Cup showdown on September 5.
The Indian opener reached her hundred in just 57 balls, making her the first Indian woman to achieve multiple centuries in T20 internationals. This latest milestone brings her total to 18 centuries in international cricket, surpassing both Australia’s Meg Lanning and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who each have 17.

Mandhana’s innings were crucial for India. The seven-time champions had kicked off their campaign with a solid 94-run victory over Thailand, but there were signs of weakness in their batting order as some key players struggled.
Mandhana Gears Up After Steady Start
Initially, Mandhana played cautiously before stepping up her aggression against Hong Kong. She reached her half-century after 39 balls, but then accelerated her scoring significantly.
As the middle overs progressed, the left-handed batswoman began finding the boundary with ease. She struck a beautifully timed drive through the off-side and executed several pulls and sweeps, taking control against the Hong Kong bowlers. In a particularly explosive moment, Mandhana hit back-to-back sixes against Maryam Bibi — one soaring straight down the ground and another cleared over deep square leg.
Mandhana moved closer to her century with consecutive fours in the 14th over; she deftly maneuvered a short ball to deep square leg and lofted another over deep extra cover. She had a lucky break shortly after when, on 95, her slog-sweep off Alison Siu was dropped by a fielder who should have made the catch. Mandhana quickly capitalized on this opportunity, smashing another four to bring her score to 99.
With just four runs needed for her historic hundred, Mandhana found another short ball from Marina Lamplough outside off. She deftly cut it past the fielder at deep backward point, celebrating her century, which she achieved from just 57 balls.
This milestone makes Mandhana only the second player, after Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, to score a century in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
