Glasgow Launches New Initiative to Boost Global Presence

On September 1, 2026, a new organization named Destination Glasgow was officially launched, aimed at enhancing the city’s visibility on the global stage.

Destination Glasgow will act as the city’s voice internationally, uniting expertise in investment, tourism, conventions, and marketing to effectively promote Glasgow. This initiative is set to make Glasgow a standout destination, showcasing its unique personality and strengths to the world.

The organization will collaborate with various local partners, including businesses, educational institutions, and cultural organizations, to elevate Glasgow’s international reputation and highlight its valuable economic and cultural assets.

At the launch event held at the Glasgow Science Centre, local businesses and community members were invited to share their insights about the city and its surroundings. Information gathered from the Glasgow Insights survey will be used to better communicate Glasgow’s strengths and identify areas for improvement.

Among those present were around 300 leaders from different sectors, including business, tourism, and government. Councillor Susan Aitken, the Leader of Glasgow City Council, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Destination Glasgow ensures that the story of our city’s changes and successes reaches audiences both locally and globally.” She underscored the city’s rich identity and potential, saying, “With Destination Glasgow, we can showcase our strengths while maintaining the authenticity that makes Glasgow special. This will lead to more opportunities and ultimately benefit everyone in the city.”

The launch of Destination Glasgow comes as the city continues to strengthen its reputation. In 2025, Glasgow was recognized as the top large city in Europe for foreign direct investment strategies, bringing in approximately £500 million. The city hosted 530 conferences last year, attracting about 168,000 delegates and contributing £207 million to the local economy. Additionally, in 2025, Glasgow welcomed 31.5 million visitors, translating to £2.74 billion in direct spending and supporting over 41,000 jobs.

Destination Glasgow aims to build upon this success and ensure the city is considered a desirable location for investment, events, and tourism. After analyzing the responses from the Glasgow Insight survey, the organization will craft a unified narrative about the city, promoting Glasgow’s achievements and strengths to local, national, and global audiences.

Stuart Patrick CBE, Chief Executive of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, remarked, “The launch of Destination Glasgow is a significant step forward. It reflects the need for our business community to present our economic story more confidently on the global stage.” He noted that there has been a disconnect between investors’ understanding of Glasgow and the opportunities available here. Bringing together various sectors into a unified organization will help bridge that gap, attract increased investment, and create jobs.

Kevin Rush, Director of Regional Economic Growth at Glasgow City Council, also expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, calling it a potential game-changer for the city. He stated, “Destination Glasgow will ensure our successes are known globally and will introduce new markets to the city, benefiting our businesses and residents.”

The launch marks the beginning of Destination Glasgow’s three-year program, aiming at the long-term development of the city as a prime location for investment, conventions, and tourism, with an emphasis on sustainable growth that adds value for all Glasgow’s citizens and businesses.
