Alia Bhatt has officially started filming for Tumbbad 2, raising excitement for the sequel to the popular 2018 folk horror movie. Bhatt, who joined the franchise in July, was seen on set recently with the film’s crew.
On the set, Alia was dressed casually in an oversized striped shirt and had her hair tied up in a high ponytail. She appeared cheerful as she took pictures with the team. The filming is taking place in various locations, including scenes around a river and an old fort.
This news follows the announcement of Alia’s role in the movie, with actor and producer Sohum Shah welcoming her on social media. He expressed his delight, saying, “The world of Tumbbad expands, and we are thrilled to welcome @aliaabhatt to the cast of #Tumbbad2.”
This role marks Alia’s first significant project in the horror genre. She will be sharing the screen with Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is also confirmed for a key part in the sequel. While details about the characters and plot remain under wraps, Siddiqui’s role is expected to be crucial, and Alia’s involvement is likely to add a fresh dynamic to the story’s folklore background.
Directed by Adesh Prasad and featuring Sohum Shah, Tumbbad 2 aims to delve deeper into the mythology established in the first film. The sequel is anticipated to continue exploring themes of greed, fear, and human nature, leading the narrative into a new chapter.
For the initial shooting phase, a massive set has been built over an area of 7-8 acres in Mumbai, designed to represent an entire city, showcasing the grand scale of this production.
Tumbbad 2 is set for a theatrical release on December 3, 2027. Sohum Shah has teased the sequel with the intriguing line: “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises, the legacy of greed continues… Mark your calendars for #Tumbbad2 arriving on 3. 12. 2027.”
