William Grant & Sons will soon see David Williamson step into a new role as the CEO of the World Spirits Alliance (WSA), succeeding Helen Medina. Williamson’s transition into this position will take place in November 2026.

Medina, who served as the WSA’s first CEO after taking on the role in April 2024, recently departed the organization at the beginning of this month. With her exit, Williamson has been chosen as her replacement.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Williamson stated, “I am honored to lead the World Spirits Alliance, and I look forward to showcasing how our industry makes a positive impact on communities and economies globally.” He continued, “I am eager to collaborate with our members to discover new growth opportunities, promote the responsible enjoyment of our brands, and support fair trade and tax policies for the alcohol sector.”

Before this new position, Williamson spent nearly eight years at William Grant & Sons, where he currently works as the corporate affairs director. He will maintain his role there until he officially starts at WSA in November.

Williamson brings extensive experience to his new role, including two decades at the Scotch Whisky Association and positions on several boards, including the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking, Spirits Europe, and the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.

As CEO, Williamson will play a crucial role in representing the spirits industry on an international level, advocating for the sector’s interests during global policy discussions.

The World Spirits Alliance, founded in 2019 and located in Geneva, consists of top spirits companies and regional trade associations. Darya Galperina, the newly appointed chair of the WSA board and the international public affairs director at Pernod Ricard, emphasized the importance of Williamson’s leadership during this pivotal moment for the organization. She expressed confidence in his ability to enhance the Alliance’s accomplishments and amplify its global presence.

In related news, earlier announcements have confirmed changes within the WSA, including the departure of the previous CEO and new appointments to the board.
